In August, Bianka, our blog Muse, will be turning 2. Oh, that lovely age filled with numerous tantrums and mood swings, also known as, the (dreaded) terrible twos. To mark that remarkable milestone, we're looking for a perfect outfit for our tantruming princess.
If you were reading our Tiny Tomboys' Style Rulebook (here), you should remember the Style Rule No. 9 - investing in key pieces. One key piece you should always splurge on is a tutu skirt. Tutu skirt is a staple in Bianka's closet.
Tutu skirts are really versatile and can be worn as occasional wear, as part of the pretend play costume or just as part of your regular outfit of the day. Beware, tutus can easily turn outfits over-the-top and overly girly, which will inevitably cause the famous Tiny Tomboys eye-roll. Tiny Tomboys pair their tutus with plain, neutral coloured t-shirts, oversized sweatshirts, knee high socks and sneakers.
Bianka's tutu collection is growing every day. After investing in neutral coloured tutus, we are now looking into expanding her collection onto other colour schemes. This Betty tutu by Plum NYC had us at hello. After seeing it in real life, we are pretty sure we'll be purchasing another colour. We have our eyes on Penny and can't wait to see what they have in store for us in the future.
If you follow us on Instagram (@tiny_tomboys), you'll see that Bianka spends a lot of time in this H&M ivory tutu. Although a little bit flimsy, that was probably the last tutu of that quality in H&M. Or maybe we just set a (tutu) bar a little too high.
Our last tutu discovery was this black Summer Loving Tutu Dress from Oh My Baby. It is longer than any other tutu she owns and it feels a bit more festive. To avoid going overboard, we tone it down with sneakers or a graphic tee over it. If black is not your first choice, the tutu dress also comes in white, grey and pink.
To save you the time and hassle, we did extensive research on tutus for you. Besides the above-mentioned brands, here are some of the other brands that made it onto our wishlist: Tutu Du Monde (especially their Bespoke collection), Arim Closet and Bob&Blossom.
Wear your tutus with pride any day, but ALWAYS on Tutu Tuesdays.
